TRS 1/4" male connector suggestions

Post by endertak » Tue Aug 11, 2015 8:37 pm

Hi there,

I wanted to see if anyone had strong ops on which TRS plug connectors to use for making my own cables.

I just purchased a pack of GLS audio connectors, and to be honest I find them kinda weak. The shaft of the connector doesn't line up properly with the casing (not aligned; bent). This normally isn't a problem with most connection points, but kinda irks my OCD. :x

Anyway; maybe I'm being persnickety.

Mainly wondering whether there is anything other than Neutrik that's reliable for this use case.

Thanks!

I built several snakes a few years back using 1/4" Ampenol gold plated...don't remember the part number but I bought from Haveinc.com

No problems thus far, very reasonably priced and at least as good as any other I've used.

I'm quite happy with the Rean connectors I've been getting (though they are a subsidiary of Neutrik, if that bothers you), they are pretty reasonably priced from places like Parts Express or Bitches Love My Switches.

My only negative would be the jacket can be spun off, though I imagine a bit of thread lock would fix that.

What's your beef with Neutrik?

I'll admit that the "big-handle" ones are problematic for tight spaces, but the Switchcraft-style (NYS228) ones are pretty close to Switchcraft.

I've also used the Recdo house-brand ones (HP3C).

And the elephant in the room: Switchcraft 297 or 299.
"What fer?"
"Cat fur, to make kitten britches."

Nuetrik or Switchcraft, both good choices and easy to find. G&H are pretty solid versions of the Switchcraft design.

The REAN turned out to be the best option for me.
Never had beef w/ Neutrik; just found them a bit expensive... Love the option.

thanks,
