beyer m-99

Post by blungo2 » Thu Dec 17, 2015 8:28 pm

A while back i got an M-99, because i kept hearing horror stories of peoples m-88s dying suddenly when used as a kick mic. I liked the m-88 just fine as an inside kick mic, but i didn't want to fry it.

Turns out i like the m-99 lots more on kick than the m-88. It just sounds huge, but not flabby or fluffy to me. Sounds great on guitar cab too. I wouldn't be surprised if it sounded great on other stuff (voice too maybe), but that's all i've used it on so far.

Really digging this mic currently. I've only used it w/o the built in eq.

I have yet to find a beyer mic that I don't love on something. I have an old M700 that's my go to vocal mic (when I'm the singer). It's amazing.

I think they're somewhat the sleepers of the audio world. I also have a pair of mc930s that i think are very, very nice.

Next i need a 160/130 combo.

I only have one Beyer mic and it's an oddball. It's an M61 that I bought years ago off eBay for 20.00 on a lark. I actually love it on vocals and really should try it on some other stuff. I wish I had more of their mics. I think the first really quality audio thing I ever bought was a pair of DT-100 headphones.

Beyer never quite figured out the American market. They make excellent microphones. I've got 3 M88s, an M69, M201 and TGX50 that all get used a lot. I'll have to check out the M99 sometime.

The TG version of the M88 was redesigned to handle being put in bass drums. You should be able to use that without fear. I know I do.

Thanks! That's good to know, for now the m-99 has bumped it on kick.
