How's this sound?

Post by ubertar » Wed Jan 06, 2016 2:36 pm

Just two mics: RE20 on the drums and SM57 on strings.
A little compression, eq and reverb.

I had to eq the drums more than I would have liked. I tried SM77 before the RE20 and it was no good at all. I'm going to have to experiment to find something that gets the sound or at least closer to the sound without so much eq. Maybe a condenser would be better?

The performance is a bit sloppy but I'm just trying to get sounds right now...

Sounds pretty great on my crappy laptop speakers.
I hear you about having to EQ like crazy on the RE20 but the end results are quite nice. A condenser might do the trick. Or a "condenser like" dynamic, AKG D224 or something along those lines. An SM59 might be nice too if you can ever find one.

Leave it to me to suggest 2 mics that have been out of production for decades.
