mics with transformers

what are some good modern condenser solid state mic that have transformers? under or around $1000 ??

any ideas?

I agree with Nick, but I'd rather a Jim Williams mod if going that route myself... He's not doing mic mods anymore however, but he may help you with how to go about it; he's very open with the DIY community. Great guy!

Another option I like is a Bock 195; also no longer made however.

I'd like to give the Audio-Technica 4047 and Lawson L47FET a shout to add to the list!

Ones I'd certainly consider, but I personally haven't tried, are the Miktek C1 and C7e, the Peluso P87, the Lauten Audio Clariton, and Cathedral Pipes St. Jean Baptise.

Of course these are all LD... Plenty of good SD options too!

I'm using a Lauten Audio Oceanus, it's a dual tube mic, with the 2nd tube handling the transformer duties. Very nice.
I know that doesn't hit your bullet words, but it's sure worh trying before you buy transistor with a transformer. This one, an Sm7b and a good ribbon should cover 1st to 3rd base and some good pres for them should get you wherever want. If it's not enough for your needs they have added a reportably better mic to their catalogue now. Lewitt is a good mic company, as well as Peluso. I've bought parts form him, and he's great to work with.
