recommend a tube pre build?

Post by floid » Wed Apr 27, 2016 6:07 pm

I'm getting ready to build a four channel tube pre. There are lots of circuits out there, I've looked at the old pultec design, the Scott Hampton one, the Jensen stuff. I have a Roberts, a Silverstone, and an Altec... Probably other stuff i'm forgetting I've seen or tried. But this one is to be special - from scratch, done right.
I'm leaning towards the hampton tapeop design, since after that i'll likely do a box of JFP's. But i'd welcome thoughts. Ideally a 2 tube design trafo'd in and out.
Recommendations?

There were some tube designs mentioned in this thread.

The previous statement is from a guy who records his own, and other projects for fun. No money is made.
