I've toyed with the idea of putting it on the network, so I can copy files to my workstation, and just blocking it at the firewall, but Windows is so damn self-willed, it finds ways to download updates when you least expect it.

A 16GB USB drive will usually fit an 8 track session, shame I only have a 4GB drive down here

Y'know, actually, against all expectations as a long-time Winders user, yeah.

According to the long time gamer in the family - and I always assume gaming is more of an OS stress test than audio - it is only every other Microsoft release that works properly: Win 3.1 sucked; Win 98 rocked; Win Millennium sucked; Win Vista...hmmm...sucked for me; Win XP rocked; Win 7...well...not THAT bad; Win 8/8.1 sucked; Win 10...I'm not ready to try it with all its privacy concerns. So, not quite a OS rhythm happening, but it does seem to pay to stay with the devil you know rather that the one you don't. Now if Linux would only run Reaper and my audio interfaces...

Win7 is my last stop with MS. Ads on my taskbar is a bridge too far. My computer, I paid for it, I own it. Right of first sale, baby.

windows 10 has been working well for me with Cubase 5 and 7.

I track to a separate internal HD and try to make regular backups to an external HD.

I guess i actually have version 4 thru 7.

After 5 they changed the comping tool so I prefer to track in v5 and then switch to v7 for some of the added console features i use in mixing.

BTW i'm using 64 bit OS and 64 bit Cubase as well to take advantage of the increased RAM.

Well, worrying about privacy on the internet is over. We were sold out. Every bit of the data we create can be sold, even using a vpn using wireless. The vpn's will protect you from your wired provider, but not the NSA or the sites you visit. Win 10 phoning home is nothing if you're running legit software. It's on display every time you connect. It's a good reason to go legit.
