What are the proper steps when connecting a phantom powered (PP) mic to a mic-pre? I turn the gain all the way down, plug in the mic and then activate the PP. Is this the correct way?
It seems like if the mic is connected with PP already enable that it could create a power surge and potentially damage the mic.
Thanks.

Yup.
