Valerie's Waiting - epic teenage 4-track synthpop!
Since jumping back onto the Tape Op board, I've been excited to see that 4-track culture is still alive and vibing.
My own 4-track got a bit of use not long back when I used it to archive/update some ancient recordings. I released an album called Antronica 2, which combined new material with old songs from my teenage basement days. In some cases, I added new vocals in PT over backing tracks bounced from cassette, but with this particular song, what you hear is all warbly teen me! I was always trying to get my 4-track (Yamaha MT-44 represent!) to think it was a 24-track, and this song was probably the pinnacle of my attempts at "epic." Loads of Prophet 5 and TR-707, with PolySix choir as well.

Takes me back to HS. New Romanticism, hairspray, and puffy shirts were all the rage.
You got a *lot* out of that four-track for sure!

My final year of high school was meant to be all-music classes, but the music program was cancelled outright, so I took a proficiency exam and spent that year in the basement with a four-track. 10-hour days, on average! It was Tape Op publisher John Botch who pulled me from the basement and stuck me in a real studio for the first time, although his Enharmonik at the time was also in the basement. In fact, that's where I met Larry Crane, as his band Vomit Launch was wrapping up a session just as my band was showing up for ours. Small worlds!Gregg Juke wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 9:54 amTakes me back to HS. New Romanticism, hairspray, and puffy shirts were all the rage.

Really good song and great sounds. A 4 track, eh? Good job!
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Thanks much, Nick. I still have the MT-44, but I haven't used it for anything other than de-archiving lately. I was REALLY into that thing, obviously!Nick Sevilla wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 4:49 pmReally good song and great sounds. A 4 track, eh? Good job!
