established, "progressive" indie rock band needs d

Post by tyson » Tue Feb 17, 2004 12:29 pm

Here's the deal: we're an experimental band that still operates within the general framework of an "indie rock" band. Does that make sense? While the songs themselves are singular, accessible and catchy, the individual elements come from anywhere from psychedellia to kraut-rock to folk to funk to post-punk to plain old "modern" rock. The most important thing to The Energy is our desire to stay as far away from the other acts working in a similar format while still writing songs that move the heart and feet. If you know ANYONE who might be interested in joining this, please send them our way. We have a recording studio in our house (MOTU 8-input audio-interface w/ phantom power, AudioDesk/Reason/etc. software) and are on the way to turning the band into a self-sustaining venture. Here's what I'm posting on other boards:

-----

The Energy (Santa Ana, CA) is looking for either a full-time member who is willing to turn their lives over to music or just a live drummer who won't have to deal with anything band-related besides playing at shows (we will record the drums ourselves).

For a full-time member we expect to practice AT LEAST 3 times a week in the early evening on weekdays and during the daytime on weekends. You will never have to sacrifice a night to practicing. We have a practice studio inside of our house where you can keep your drums. We are NOT looking for double bass or breakdowns every two seconds - we're looking for someone who keeps a steady beat and plays dynamically - think somewhere between Stephen Morris (Joy Division, New Order) more classic-rock/psych sound (Grand Funk Railroad, CSN&Y, Floyd) and a modern indie-rock funkiness (!!!, Modest Mouse, etc.). Our influences span the entire history of pop music, and though our sound is very well-defined, there is also an incredible amount of openess to new ideas and directions within songs. You should be interested regardless, but just to add some weight to what we're asking, we have some incredible touring opportunities coming up with a very well-established band and are currently talking to a few labels to release our first full-length (hopefully by the end of 2004). For now, we'd like to tour a few months out of the year, but once the ball starts rolling more we'll expect a little bit more.

Go to http://www.theenergymusic.com to get an idea of what we sound like or get in contact for a copy of our first EP on Green Flag Records. If you're interested, email us at tysonthurston@yahoo.com or call The Energy house at 714/538-7047. Now that our drummer is out, we have an extra room in the house if you are looking to maybe relocate to Orange County.

By the way, the tracks posted on the website (besides the newer demo) were recorded about 3 months after the band formed; our newer songs expand on that sound and add a lot of funkier bass and more guitar solos.
