What's the best loud speaker for an Echo Chamber?
I am building a custom chamber out of a 16 foot sona tube
That will be suspended along my wall in the hall of my studio
the hall also has 20 foot glass roof.i am excited to see what kind of crazy sounds this will produce. We are building a custom rounded case for the speaker I buy,It will be powered by a realistic radio shack amp and the mic I am using is a naiant X-Q omni directional mic.On a pully into the tube.Any thoughts?
Here are pics of the chamber in progress
the roof sound will bounce off
the amp that will power the loud speaker i get
I am thinking of just going from the back of this amp with speaker wire direct to a speakers two gold tips no cross over
thoughts?

i don't recall shitting on you before... you may have me confused with someone else? looking at your previous threads it looks like i've only posted to one and it was in response to someone else's comment... but either way, sorry if i made you feel shat upon! i actually really like the vibe of your space. good luck with the chamber!

aren't you going to get a frequency buildup of the resonant notes of the tube that you're going to try to use as echo?
talk through one end of a long pvc pipe, or any type of reflective pipe. yes, you sound far away, but it's not a real reverb sound - it's always honky at a specific frequency.
good luck! i hope it works nevertheless! we've all got to experiment.

this is why i used the return on the effects loop of a guitar amp that i sometimes use to drive my 2 car garage as a chamber.joninc wrote:make sure the speaker is not too trebly or bassy - you want more midrange than anything i think.
who loves all that hi end 16k splatter ssssss on their reverb?
answer: no one
who wants deep rumbly sub bass reverb?
answer: no one!
midrange is your friend in this situation!
there's a reason why they bandpassed the signal hitting the chambers at Abbey Road.

Ok
well we got the tube mounted to the wall
and the speaker in place
However we discovered quickly that the speaker can not remain exposed as it is now.We are getting so much sound from the bottom of the speaker and its reverberating in the hallway.I figured we would have to enclose the speaker but it looks so cool exposed perhaps i can enclose it in plexi glass so you can still see the speaker.
Here is what it looks like
We did a test recording of just voice and beat boxing through the tube
and you are right to say this is not reverb and or echo.It is a spiraling weird sound but that is fine with me.I want it to sound weird and not like any plug in
I am getting a low end tone but I think that is due to the fact the we just have the mic draped over the side of the tube.We are going to install a pully and have the mic suspended dead center of the tube with the ability to get closer and further away from the speaker.I think at its highest point I want the mic to come totally out of the tube to get the reflection of the roof.
None of this is scientific its trial and error. You know the spirit of recording that Larry Crane approves of....right?
Anyway
I will post links to the first recordings later but they are not the best representation
of the sound Im hoping for with this.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on the best way of enclosing the speaker ?
Also I am planing to put the amp directly under the speaker will that be ok being that the speaker magnet is facing down right on top of the amp?
This is only one of 4 custom chambers at Clean and Humble
when we get started on our diy plate/spring unit I will be sure to post that
also I have a stack of tires I use as a chamber as well that is in operation
Will be posting all of these on my website when there all done and tested and sounding nice
Can not wait to make dub mixes sending different parts of the drum kit to these units

A lot of people deess sends to plates and chambers.
What I'd do is get a speaker that hides the mids to avoid that. Any pro-audio powered monitor aimed at the prosumer market should do. HR824s. tannoy system 800, cheapo genelecs, etc.

Well Janet Jackson
I already bought that Eminence speaker you see in the pics
I like the sound so far
I do not plan on pushing the volume on the stuff i send to the speaker
its just to capture the vibe of the tube
and the tube resonates a lot
my main goal right now is enclosing the back of the speaker so all
of the sound focuses upwards toward the roof
I will upload my progress on this stuff soon
PS Janet nice nipple
why'd you let that whack dude touch it though?
