The weird thing about MBV in the car, if you turn it up too loud it loses its contemplative effect.

It should be like the rustling of leaves. Or with the windows cracked so you can hear birds chirping to it. Or, I'm full of shit.

Bon Jovi... LOL if I hear that damn vocoder one more time... esp. with BJ... ahhhh!

moe. - headseed for the sunny days... love to scream out the lyrics and bop the head to the hooks on this record... i often find myself taking the longest possible route to where i'm going when i have this album in...

helmet - betty for everyday when you don't know what else to listen to... the only time anyone has ever reconised this album in my shitty bumblefuck town was when i got my car inspected last year... me and the mechanic had a good 15 minute talk about how great the album was and how no one knew it...

dabrye - both his records whenever you wanna pretend to be cool and have the hot beats coming out the window... dabrye makes the sickest fucking beats... maybe i only love him so much cause i'm a drummer at heart... but no real melody... no mc... just nasty beats...

fu manchu - king of the road "king of the road says you move to slow"... nothing else really needs to be said about this one... but it works better if you have a nice 1972 chevelle or something at not a 93 saturn wagon... but it works nonetheless...

murder city devils - empty bottles, broken hearts perfect for the screaming punk chorus kinda vibe... on a long trip i usually will come out of the car hoarse from all the screaming... i'm happy i remembered this record as i haven't listened to it in awhile caused its lost in my car somewhere... maybe i should clean it... but yeah nothing really beats this in the car... in my opinion... being in the car enhances the sound of the cd...

One more on the literal tip...

Jonathan Richmond - Roadrunner

When I was driving Detroit to Chicago every weekend (a long time ago) two records were in my casette player non-stop. MBV's Loveless and Yo La Tengo's "Painful."

These days my favorite driving music is mostly King Tubby's dub reggae mixes. It's relaxing, but still has enough bass to work out my subwoofer...

My all Chapel Hill top 5 car albums:

Pipe - Ball Peen
Metal Flake Mother - Beyond the Java Sea
Archers of Loaf - Icky Mettle
Superchunk - Tossing Seeds: Singles 89-91
Polvo - Celebrate the New Dark Age

Those 5 over and over could get me from ATL to NYC and back - no problem.

Any Dino, Jr., especially Where Ya Been, the Fog is OK, too, especially the 2nd one.

Any Zep, especially Physical Graffiti, "Talk about love..."

Most Who, but Quad is better for the long rides; "Going Mobile" rules.

Any NIN, especially remixes - where else you gonna listen to "Head Like A Hole" in 5 different versions?

"Aqualung", stoned, because it was the first song I heard while driving, stoned.

Bonus: Any GNR, especially "Appetite..."
bandcamp;
blog.
I mix with olive juice.

Lou Reed's Transformer is FUN in the car. Especially the Satellite Love song.
