Audix OM-3xb
Can y'all please review this mike?
Re: Audix OM-3xb
I can.
I've had one of these for about six years now. It's a hypercardoid made/ideal for loud and live rock band settings where isolation is crucial. Great for controling feedback as well. The pattern on this thing is pretty tight. The construtions also should fill you in on what its made for. Audix makes the single most bullet proof stage mics out there.
So what about the studio? Well, I still use it on my vocals, at about 12 inches back due to the massive proximity affect. You would thing that this affect would be useful for boosting the low on something, but I havent found what that is yet. I've paired it up to other condenser mics record acoustic and electric guitars and never have gotten a decent sound. So I still only use it for vocals. It seems to sound pretty scooped to my ears, and with my resonant (yet not at all bassy) voice, it helps cut the over tones and gives me more cut in a thick mix. Thats usually when I reach for it.

OM3 - the second best vocal mic made except for the OM5. Once you own one and use it you want go back.

bounce.
it's always interesting and refreshing to hear alternatives to the SM58.

Re: Audix OM-3xb
i recorded a project and the group had this mic; i tried it on a bunch of things and didn't find anything i wanted to use it on. seemed really scooped out in the middle to me.

There's one in every crowd. However for the rest of the world the OM3 and OM5 kills the SM58
