Whats next...

Post by Rick Hunter » Sat Jun 28, 2003 11:34 am

This is pretty sappy so forgive the lamness, but here goes.
So the biotech that I work for is closing its doors in a few short weeks. I will be out of a job and probably pretty bummed. But the cool thing is I will be getting a real bitchen severence package (2 monts of bi weekly salary then 6 months salary lump sum+bonus prorated). I've allways wanted to go back to school and learn something, but if I do that I will have a hard time working enough to pay my Bay Area Rent. So now I am at this wierd crossroad situation where I can go to another company and do the same thing I do now or potentially do something cool. I found out about the company closing about 3 months ago but up untill like 5 minutes ago I have been completly numb...Now I feel like I have to find something to do with my self besides sit in my apartmen and collect dust. I'm not looking for someone to tell me what I SHOULD do but I was just wondering what you WOULD do.

What would I do? Find a job ASAP. The economy sucks and the temptation to just vegetate and piss away your severance would be great. Better to look now while you aren't desperate than wait till you are.

Invest as much if the severance as you can, long/short term medium risk. See a professional. Find a new job asap (as said above). If you feel inclined to better educate yourself, do it part time with the support of a new job.

Well, do what makes you happy, yes, but keep your future in mind. Very important! (Also, don't forget to breathe!)
