Hello everybody!
Does anybody know if I can connect an 8-channel ADC (such as the Marian ADCON) with TOSLINK output to the MOTU 828 (mk1) and thus get 16 analog inputs? Or are the 8 analog inputs then replaced by the external ins?
Maybe anybody has already tried?
thanks in advance
MOTU 828 TOSLINK - HELP!
Re: MOTU 828 TOSLINK - HELP!
Anyone know if toslink is the same as lightpipe, or are they two totally different things?
Re: MOTU 828 TOSLINK - HELP!
The analog inputs, ADAT input and RCA SPDIF can be used at the same time allowing 18 simultaneous inputs. The ability to have the 828 and, for example, a Presonus Digimax LT in a 2-space rack case for 10 inputs, is pretty cool.
I think that the ADAT protocol is a method that Alesis created to transfer 8 channels of audio at once over an optical cable. TOSlink is a different protocol to transfer 2 channels over the same cable. I'm not sure exactly how the 2 differ. There was an article explaining the differences between TDIF, ADAT and TOSlink in an Electonic Musician a few years ago, but I can't remember exactly what was written or in what issue it appeared...

ya mon!
great stuff, it works! I found a shop that gave me the ADCON
for testing.
the MOTU828 mk1 + Marian Adcon work pretty well together,
so now I got 16 inputs in 1 and a half rack-space, each channel
with 24 bits and about 104dBA (which is absolutely enough if you
don't record classic-pros).
muchos regardos,
