what do you mean by dont do nothing? like silence?

the way mine works (and who knows if it is working 100%) is that with the limit button engaged it does some pretty crazy stuff. some smack down limiting that is pretty noisy. cool on drums.

then with that off, it does some smooth compression. kinda hard to hear at first, but compared to a direct signal- very different. very subtle and nicely colored. in fact i run all my synth leads and basses through it to smooth them out a bit.

From the SC-50 manual:
When the LIMIT switch is in the OUT position, all limiting and compression effects are by-passed. For normal operations, the switch should be IN.

eeldip, you probably are hearing something different from the direct signal, but it's just passing through all the electronics, not compressing.
