Hey you know what would be cool?

is if someone with all these Alesis cheapie boxes posted a bunch of MP3's of I don't know, guitar and vocals?

Quadraverb, Midiverb, I and II, III and IV, Wedge, etc. I don't even know how many there are.

Come to think of it, it would be cool to have a sticky in the MP3's forum, with examples of budget reverbs. That would be awesome. I'd contibute the Roland SRV 330.

I guess there's tons of settings for all these units, but if people just picked their favorite for that application, I think it would be worthwhile.
Hmmm.

Does anybody ever have reverb shootouts?

all give more than passable results for any money. up your total budget to $200-225 and buy all three!

Roland DEP-5

Perhaps not an all-purpose unit (best on guitars, drums IMHO -- though I've never even tried it on vox!) but it really does sound nice.

Wow I really like the Microverb 1 I got from ampguy. It's not very versatile but it's great for crunchy guitar swells n' stuff. I like it better than the Midiverb 4 I'm borrowing, though the 4 is more full-featured in the random FX department.

The Microverb 1 was sort of an early consumer-level digital reverb experiment and it has a really unique and very musical sound.

I like the alex too - is that the one with the gold Plate setting? If so, I really like that setting, although (perhaps like any verb), it's very easy to overdo. Can I ask you though - what other settings are you using on the alex?

I'd like to cast my vote for the good old spring reverb. There are tons of cheap ones out there. I find them much more usable than most digital units. It's kind of a one trick pony but it's a really good trick.

I'll third the Lexicon. The Alesis units are good for folks looking to spend less than $100. Once you hit the $150 mark, move to a better manufacturer. Lex is the way to go in this case.

I'll be the second broken record: Ensoniq DP/Pro. Seen 'em on Ebay for under $150. They are, in every sense, pro effects, not 'prosumer,' nor entry level or whatever, and it happens that the reverbs are some of the most useful patches in it, as are the delays. All the weird ones are frosting!

That said, I just remembered that I have two Alesis Midiverbs IIs sitting in a closet. If anyone is interested, make me a reasonable offer and I'll sell them.
