ml-52 mod woes

Post by charles bronson » Thu Oct 07, 2004 11:43 am

:( :( :(

i just finished installing my lundahl 2911 transformer in to my ml-52. only
to have no gain or really anything at all. i have a couple of hunches myself but at the sametime am more than likely out of my league here and propably need some of you folx out there with experience to coach me. my hunches are as follows:

(a) didn't hook the wires up right. maybe there is a pos. neg. polarity issue
that i need to concern myself with. the schematics do denote a pos.
sign in reference to an input and output to the "trannie". the wires on
the mic however are not color coded or marked in anyway suggesting
a pos. this or a negative that. ALL of the four wires both input and out
put are green.

(b) maybe i just need a hell of alot of gain to push this mic. iv'e read here
on this board that this was the case numerous times.

again i will say that i feel out of my league with this thing. even though
this transformer was relatively easy to install i just felt that the schem-
atics were a little vague for someone who hasn't done something like
befor.

oh yeah. i realise that this thing doesn't need phantom power(48v) but
will a regular quarter inch set-up work with this thing. more specifically
does this thing accept the same amount of power as your average
dynamic mic?

any feedback will be totally appreciated.

p.s. i did do a number of different word searches concerning finding
solutions to my problem here. just couldn't find enough.

You ned to speak to Auralman about that one. There is a possible DIY article in the works if MR. CRANE WOULD PLEASE AND THANK YOU BE SO KIND AS TO INCLUDE IT IN TAPEOP. Sorry just trying to get attention made about it while replying to your question. Yes ribbon mics require a much higher ammount of ouput gain so it may be that you simply don't have enough juice to hear it, but I doubt that since upon your own admission you've not done this sort of thing before and the directions were "vague".
