the new Low record?

Post by cassettefetish » Sun Oct 31, 2004 5:34 pm

Who's heard the new Low album, The Great Destroyer? I dig it. Does anyone know who worked on it?

i got to hear some of it back in late august and its excellent- a little more on the pop side of things but certainly very low-esque still...cool things going on like moogs etc.
the song 'monkey' in particular struck me as an awesome song.
anyway, i was lucky to be invited to hang out for 3-4 days at fridmann's studio in late aug. when they were mixing the album. mastered by calbi in nyc too.
as far as the recording- they initially recorded it themselves (with the help of tom herbers too i think) at home on an 8 track and transferred it to 2" 24 trk at fridmanns earlier in the year and did additional overdubs on it from thereon. fans won't be disappointed!

It kills me, my wife's parents live 5 minutes from Tarbox Road and pscottm assures me Fridmann would be happy to show me around...but the inlaws are neocons and I always stay home when Mrs. I goes to visit. Someday I'll bite the bullet...

I feel so dirty.

i swear that place is the best house ive ever been to. its equipped to survive the armageddon! obviously.. great gear, rooms, kitchen, junk food etc down the road 15 min away (including a tim horton's! [canucks will know what i am talking about- large triple-triple!] and a great room upstairs with home entertainment system, right down to ivin's great laserdisc collection!
as for the low record- its great, though don't expect a full-on fridmann treatment in terms of arrangements etc- as it was done for the most part by the band themselves- however dave's mixing skills really added a nice touch- he seemed to immediately hone in on what needed to be emphasized etc....he's psychically on the ball!
