guitars twang, drums thump, bass booms, keys buzz...

Post by SchemeTeam » Tue Jul 29, 2003 9:43 am

Howdy!

I would love to get some feedback from fellow TapeOpers.

I've posted 4 Mp3s on our site: www.spy-island.com
(hit the 'sounds' link, then the cover, then 'mp3s')

The EP was recorded in 7 days on a 1/2 in. TSR-8.

Thanks!

the songwriting is cool, and the songs have a very fun/late 60's feel. It even sounds that old. Not sure if you were going for the retro sound production, but there's a big eq hole in the stuff..like your control is exaggerating low frequencies.
BUT, if done as a theme, kick ass

and, a question for yah, is that a tape splice i hear in whiskey scientist, coming out of the odd tempo back to the original tempo? (just a "how'd the band hold that together?!" question)

Thanks for the critique!
The tones were intentional, the murky mastering was not. We did too much bouncing too, which adds to the murk.
No tape splice in Whiskey Scientist, just lots of eye contact and silent count-ins while tracking.

I like and beyond some eq it came out pretty good I think!
keep it up!
don't worry we don't need to track, we'll fix it later!

Thanks for all the comments.

The EQ seems to be different depending on the player. Perhaps it's the way I uploaded them onto the site. I tend to like high-end mixes too much, and I tune everything a tad too sharp. Maybe my ears are busted. Hmmm... So much for consistency.

Doing a ton of recording this summer (did drums with Larry Crane @ Jackpot! Nice chap he is.). Hopefully will post some new stuff in the fall.

Thanx y'all
