Musicians will say the darndest things

Post by 8th_note » Sun Dec 12, 2004 9:30 pm

I'm finishing up a project with a hardcore/doom/metal band and one of the guys came over today to pick up a CD so they can review and critique the mixes. This is their first recording. I played it for him on my high-end stereo at a high volume but not nearly as loud as they play live. He was very happy with the sound and made several favorable comments. Then he made a statement that I've been chuckling about all day.

"Wow. I can see why some people leave when we start playing."

Just had to share that.....

Well, SOMEBODY has to ask and it my as well be me.........................

What does this guy play in the band? ( Bass is my guess. Inherent keen insight and the fact that he seems to be able to use his ear - brain connection.)
Thanks for the good laugh,
Bill

Nope, not the bass player, Bill, he's actually the guitarist/vocalist.

I do have to say that these guys are pretty funny and don't take themselves too seriously. They sing about Vikings and Berserkers, and ships going down at sea, planet death and the end of the human race, Monoculus (whatever that is), and other nice uplifting stuff. And their music reflects their lyrics. But they do see the humor in all this.

Could that be Homunculus?
Any band that uses words like that is either really awesome...
or some strange counterculturaloids.

LOL!

it always seems (in my limited experience) that the not very serious bands come off with better recordings somehow..

I was in a band once that did a song called "The Homunculus Problem". The bass player was a philosophy major.

Absolutely.
I once recorded this band who were in no way ashamed to say they were totally ripping off the Misfits. They were a hoot to work with because they didn't take it so seriously. At one point during some guitar overdubs, the singer yelled at me between takes: "Mike, it needs to sound more like Def Leppard!"

I miss those guys...

Mononucleosis (often called "mono") is an infection caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. Signs of mono include fever, sore throat, headaches, white patches on the back of your throat, swollen glands in your neck, feeling tired and not feeling hungry. (http://familydoctor.org/077.xml)
