need criticism before i move on to new projects!

Post by thethingwiththestuff » Sun Jan 09, 2005 10:14 am

hi all......on my website (http://www.doctorandphilip.com) there are 4 mastered, final tracks that will be on my band's self-released thing we're about ready to put out. i did all the recording...and hell, half the playing...and have some jobs coming in soon. i'd love some ideas as to how to improve the overall sound and feel of my work. bear in mind, as you'll notice, some of these songs have intentional bad playing, or are very sparse/low energy, and were all multitracked. (DP4, powerbook g4, motu 828mk2, in a basement bedroom...nt1, 319, 2 sm81;s, d112, some 57's, a borrowed studio projects b1...motu and symetrix pres)

i know i need to not cut so much midrange, i'm going with a mostly live set up lately, and i'm going through a soundcraft board now and playing with overloading the (much smoother) pre's a bit.

thanks!

I listened to Opportunist. Nice sounds. Perhaps push the vocals back just a touch. It is upfront just a tad too much. But remember it's just one opinion.

Keep up the fine recording.

I listened to the same track. The mix is great. I agree with the vocals needing to be slightly pushed back. I like the mellow vibe. Can't think of who it reminds me of...
