Help me compare two mixes. mine vs. his

Post by c e » Thu Jan 13, 2005 4:42 pm

I have been working with someone to help me mix up all my music and today he gave me the first sample. Below are two mixes mine and his. What do y'all think about his mix? I am too close to it to have an objective opinion. Thank you for your help, Chris

his sounds more upfront, it might just be because it's louder. His is louder definitely. More presence if lack for better work.

His is definately brighter. I think maybe a bit too bright though. I think a balance between his and yours would be great. I am just biased to lo fi :)

Cool, thanks for the feedback. It helps. I like the lo fi as well. I think you are right on about the in-between thing. I also want more pop out of the chorus than what his mix has. Thanks, chris

i much prefer his. i feel like the quality of it delievers what you're going for. yours sounds you are fighting the recording medium / equipment, and his is embracing it. never fight your gear, use what it naturally does to get what you want and you'll be overall happier.

I think the original recording was the same in both mixes, it was just the way it was mixed that made the difference. To me, it sounded like he just slapped some EQ on and turned up the highs. Basically trying to make up for wasn't there in the original recording. I may be wrong though. I say this because I've tried doing the same thing, and have gotten the same undesirable results (in my opinion).
