US plans 'robot troops' for Iraq
I think this is really disgusting and immoral. American robots with machine guns for hunting Arabs. Fuck the 21st century.

"The US military is planning to deploy robots armed with machine-guns to wage war against insurgents in Iraq.
Eighteen of the 1m-high robots, equipped with cameras and operated by remote control, are going to Iraq this spring, the Associated Press reports."

I;m not sure what to think. But if I was the "enemy" and saw a robot with a gun pointed at me, holding grenades and brewing coffe, I would piss myself.

Does anybody agree that accountability for killing is basically out the window with these things? Oops, data glitch caused the gun to go off. ... or, "sorry, on the screen it looked like the right target." These people can't discern enemy from innocent in person - is that going to get easier on a computer monitor?
It's War of the Worlds with Americans instead of Martians.
Somebody could figure out an RF jamming system to disable them, though.

This is all a little scary. It is like War of the Worlds, or The Phantom Menace minus Jar Jar...wait, no...George Dubya could be Jar Jar.psychicoctopus wrote:Does anybody agree that accountability for killing is basically out the window with these things? What I'd like to know is how these combat droids were tested. K, I'll read the article. That's messed up...we're discussing the deployment of combat droids! Are they CGI?

The article: "However, the robot will rely on its human operator, remotely studying footage from its cameras, for the order to open fire".

That means half the Clinton administration and Michael Moore are responsible for this horrible way to protect some of the troops. The Foster-Miller company is owned by the QinetiQ Group, a joint venture between the UK's Ministry of Defence and US-based holding company, Carlyle Group.

"Mr Quinn says there are plans to replace the computer screen, joysticks and keypad in the remote-control unit with a Gameboy-style controller and virtual-reality goggles."
