recommend a movie to rent

Post by rolandk » Sun Feb 06, 2005 5:01 pm

What have you guys seen lately thats any good? I just signed up to netflix and if you are surfing through the menus with nothing particular in mind its extremely sucky. They have a shit load of music vids so I'm all over that. After about 45 minutes of frustration, I ended up with:

I am trying to break your heart (the Wilco movie)
Soprano's first season (never seen it before, starting at the beginning)
American Pie 2 (god damn that Shannon Elizabeth is hot!)

Here are some I recommend:

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Spiderman 2
Lost in Translation
Napoleon Dynamite
my band: Mission 5

The Blue Planet : Seas of Life is a cool oceanic documentary series if you're into that type of thing (I am).

I recently saw a really good movie called, The Return. If you like well done foreign films, this one is for you.

blue planet is amazing. the bbc funded that doc like a motha...

if you haven't already, check out some of the other films from the makers of the ones you mentioned.

darkman (sam raimi, hero film uncannily similar to spiderman 2)
virgin suicides (sofia coppola's meditation on the morbitity of life as a suburban youth)
human nature (first teamup of kaufman & gondry)

other than those, the first season of arrested development is out on dvd, it's a sitcom of the highest order (makes seinfeld seem boring). garden state is worth checking out as well. what are you into?
medicate? oh, i thought you said "meditate."

City of god was great.

A good movie that out like last year i think, was american splendor, i liked that movie a lot.

Dont rent the forgotten, it was pretty stupid. The village was alright.

Everyone in the U.S. should be required to see City of God.

American Splendor is also good, but won't change your view of the world quite so much.

I don't recomend trying to watch them both in one evening.
