I've got an m67. my chain goes art tube preamp->shure m67->tascam 424

im sure the shure is the problem because when i use the other line-out (an rca with a 1/4 inch adapter on it) the signal is loud and fine, except for a little hum.

when i use the xlr output, the signal is really quiet, and doesn't hum, but is so quiet that i need to use the gain on the 4 track (the very thing i am trying to avoid by using this chain).

does anyone know what the problem is? i would really appreciate any help.

thanks

The XLR out is a mic level output and needs a preamp to bring it up to line level.

so, ive got a preamp going into the mixer. are you saying that i would need a preamp after the mixer as well? or should i just place the preamp after the mixer, and use the mixer as a preamp...

confusing stuff...

the xlr out on the M67 is mic level.

you need to wire up an out for the line level output. it's really easy, just like hooking up a speaker. see those poles on the back that say ground,2, and 3? those are the connections for the line level out. so, get an xlr connector and connect pin 1 to the ground, pin 2 to the pole marked 2 and pin 3 to the pole marked 3.

these mixers are great pre's. the art shouldn't be necessary unless you need phantom. i'd take the shure over the art most anyday.

i'm kinda toying with the idea of writing up a review of these mixers, they are serious machines.
