ProTools; Digi001; New Comp?
ProTools; Digi001; New Comp?
When using a digi001, is it important to know what kinda motherboard/processor/etc. that your computer has, for compatibilty reasons? Thinking of buying a new PC...

Yes, it's very important. Go to http://digidesign.com/, click support, then compatibility to check out the requirements. Oh yeah, and don't get a PC
it's ridiculously important. http://www.digidesign.com/compato/xp/001/
it must be the pickiest, most sensative software in the history of computing. if you're gonna get a new computer, read the computer stickies at the duc.
also know that PT version 6.4 is the last version digidesign supports for the 001. sonar v14 will likely work with the original soundblaster card but digidesign can't seem to make the 001 work anymore. 6.4 is stable and fine but whaddagank.

I was all set to buy a new comp because I'd become convinced that my mother board was damaged, as I couldn't access my CD or DVD drive, suddenly. Fortunately, I remembered that a dude here at work is on the Geek Squad. I asked him what's up, and he knew exactly what to do. Comp's fine, in other words. No need to buy another.
I actually have my eye on a mac mini, but since I use a digi001, I need to either downgrade to an mbox, or keep with a comp that has PCI slots...

the mini is nice, though limited. Have you looked at ProTools' M-Audio line? It's kinda new. Some of the M-Audio hardware might give you more channels of I/O than the mbox (and not have that stupid latency compensation knob) and not require a PCI slot.

I disagree. Right now I am using a PC for Pro Tools Digi002R and it's kicking ass. Sure, there are some compatability issues, but check the Digi Users Conference on the Digidesign site and you can avoid all the known issues when you buy a new PC. You can get more bang for your buck from a PC.SaneMan wrote:Yes, it's very important. Go to http://digidesign.com/, click support, then compatibility to check out the requirements. Yeah, it was kind of a joke. But I did run my 001 on a PC and it sucked. Now I have a G4 and love it. But I didn't buy my PC specifically for Pro Tools, which I did with my mac.GrimmBrotherScott wrote: I disagree. Right now I am using a PC for Pro Tools Digi002R and it's kicking ass.
