i88x?

Post by sandpanda » Tue Nov 01, 2005 2:45 pm

I notice there was no info on these 8 channel firewire interfaces anywhere on the old board, so I thought I'd ask. Does anyone else have one? I just picked one up on the bay for 250, and I hear you can get them at GC for 330 too, Yamaha is clearing them out for one reason or another (speculation abounds, but who cares).

Anyway, the pre's sound great, way better than the MOTU 828mk2 I have used previously. I have yet to really put it to the test, only recording 2 or 3 tracks at a time thus far, but i must say I really like it, and for the money, c'mon! Get one!

PC or Mac?

I'm in the market for a new audio I/O...I want to go firewire...and the i88x is far cheaper than then RME FireFace I'm thinking about. My concerns are:

1. mLan is proprietary. I really want something to just hook right into CoreAudio (on the Mac side).
2. drivers. If it's discontinued...drivers could be an issue going forward.

Let us know how it goes!
