Best track ball?

Post by joel hamilton » Wed Nov 02, 2005 9:32 pm

What do you all think?

We have gone through like 4 or 5 trackballs in the last year and a half!!!
We are WAY busy, and the only thing we havent gotten yet is an optical one....
Mouse is not an option as it needs to sit on the console...

Has to be a track ball, small footprint, but work really well and not get all jumpy after two weeks of use...

There has to be good ones out there somewhere. When I was doing more Photoshop and Illustrator applications many years ago I couldn't find a good one. Either they were clumsy, darted the pointer randomly, or went kaput within weeks.

Eventually I went to a lightpen but it isn't as practical for me these days. I've used a Logitech optical trackball and even though it was more precise, it was a lower level model that presented shoddy craftsmanship (I got what I paid for).

I'm interested on what others have to say as well.

I prefer the Kensington Expert Mouse, the grandkid of the Turbo Mouse. I've used Kensingtons almost exclusively for twelve years. Love em love em love em.

addendum: The wired Kensingtons are much more accurate than the wireless ones.

I have the Microsoft Trackball (Win 98) and the Logitech Marble Mouse (XP Home).

I prefer the Logitech for ergonomic reasons; both are stable.

(Hey, the "eight" comes up a smiley after "9"!)

98 98 98 98? WTF?

The Kensington comes with "Mouseworks" software. It lets you set all those buttons to be the quick keys of your choice in your DAW software. You can even set up combination buttons, called "chords", to get even more options.

i have owned 4 kensington wireless turbo trackballs.
jerky movement (on their own) after anywhere between a month and a year.
i switched to a wired one. it worked for about a month and now it won't scroll down at normal speed. try a 20th of normal speed.

so pissed.
i'm currently using my optical mouse because i'm too busy to figure out what to do next!

i'm starting to hate these turbo mice.

although, a good thing about kensington is...i bought the original wireless one used. they replaced each one after that for free (incl. shipping) and even the wired one. lifetime warranty that actually works.
