Talk to me about Sysex in a soothing voice

Post by YOUR KONG » Sat Nov 19, 2005 4:24 am

So I found a freeware patch editor for my emu PK6 and would like to try it out - but I've already made some patches, etc. by hand and don't want to lose them.

So I figure the proper way to "back up" my patches on the board, etc, is a sysex dump via MIDI to my PC? Yes?

How? Is there a universal way to do this or do I need some software?

I got some stuff with my pk6 but I don't think it's for sysexing stuff.

Thanks!

Check out the freeware editor and see if it receives patch dumps from the keyboard. (If it doesn't, it's a very silly editor). If so, you're set.

If not, most sequencers have dedicated modes for receiving sysex dumps.

Or, google for "midi librarian" and see what comes up.

If you have pro tools you can do sys ex dumps into that, its pretty easy.
