Royer modding the MXL 2001 without a kit

Post by Brian Brock » Thu Dec 01, 2005 2:49 pm

Hi there. Well, I'm finally feeling like modifying the MXL 2001 I got a while ago (for the purpose of modification) and I was wondering if anyone has done it without Royer's kit for it. Can this be done for less money than the kit itself? I would basically need to buy all of the parts - I have a few things here and there, but not even any 1/2watt resistors, for example.

I figure that a good deal of knowledge can be had in the process of doing this with only a schematic / parts list.

OK.

Thanks

Actually, it is preferable to do with perf. board, as it is much easier to tweak and fine-tune.

It will cost muuuch less without buying the kit. Use star grounding of PSU and find the best ground point, otherwise you might get hum.

weird I was about to start this same topic. I have the MXL2001 and hardly used them so i figured i would amp them up and get some use out of them.

Cool. I talked to Royer on the phone and he said that the new Mojave mic is an identical design, with a different power supply which is functionally equivalent.

How are you getting the parts?
