the lowest part of a mix

Post by mjau » Thu Dec 01, 2005 7:26 pm

I know this is ultimately dependent on the song itself, but generally speaking, when do you like the kick drum as the lowest part of a mix? What about bass? What about something else...minimoog, for example?

Always depends on the song. Almost 100 percent.

I like it when the bass elements all interact well, all in the same basic range.

Sometimes I like the bass below the kick.

I usually dont like the bass being up above the kick, it always seems to sound anemic that way...

I like low synths to be the lowest when they are for sub reinforcement...

Just off the top of my head....

I kind of like the bass to be around the BD attack. Most on the tone in the lowest section of hte song will be the bass (or synth is it's doing a low thing). I also like a good amount of upper mids to define the notes better. The BD should have a good attack between the low bass and the midrange definiton.
