PAiA mid-side mic kit
I just ordered one of these--I guess to let PAiA know I want 'em to stay in business despite Simonton's death! I didn't bother with the casing, which looks really ugly to me...and I'm hoping to make a cool DIY body for it.
Anyway while looking around at Home Despot I found a bunch of intriguing possibilities...copper pipe, brass pipe, this crazy-looking conical pipe footing I might try as a mesh screen...
Any DIY mic body tips/ideas?

most of my mic body machining has been from 2" brass pipe. copper can be somewhat soft to work with, but will also work.
Here's how I approached a tube mic body. Working out the capsule mounting was the hardest part.

i just ordered the gator pedal and a fatman But email replies have been few and far between after they told me the motion sickness one was out of stock, and the pedal cases were too. the guy said they wouldn't have the cases for months, i got the sense that there wasn't much interest in the sale...

Wonderful! I will likely try the same thing.fum wrote:That's just worked by hand and then soldered to the mic body at the top.inverseroom wrote:How d'you get the nice dome effect on the mesh on top?
I used a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel to do the "windows" in the tubing.

BTW what's your source for mesh? Can you get nice stuff at hardware stores?
