Help me find these speakers?

Post by MintFieldMan » Sat Dec 03, 2005 6:43 pm

Maybe somebody here can help me. A while back I was doing some research into plate reverb parts when I found these kickass coneless speakers, the sort that attach directly to the inside of a wall or other rigid surface to cause said surface to vibrate. From what I remember they handled about 30w, were made of white plastic, and were waterproof.(?)

I was less than broke at the time and for some strange reason didn't bookmark the page. Now I'd like to pickup a pair, but I can't seem to find them anywhere. I did find these Sonic Impact SoundPads...

...which I did purchase, but they aren't quite what I'm looking for. Does anyone have these and/or know where to get them or something similar? Also, is there a specific name for these kind of speakers?

I have two thoughts and both are just guesses but they might help.

1) The speakers you are describing sound like speakers that are made to be used in a swimming pool. That would explain the vibrations and the fact that they were water-proof. Google it and see what you come up with.

2) Tactile tranducers. They're mostly used in home theater and car audio but they do exactly what you describe.

Here's a company that makes both types:

Hope that helps...

Thanks for your help! I didn't know they were called tactile transducers. One quick google turned up the speakers I originaly found, which are these...

...which aren't as cool as the Clarks but are quite a bit cheaper. I'll be using them for more experimental stuff anyway. Thanks again.

put them on a 4x8 sheet of s1/4 inch steel and you have a badass reverb plate.
