Mellotron Software Synth/Samples

Post by cwileyriser » Sun Dec 04, 2005 6:09 pm

I'm looking for Mellotron software synth/samples. Anyone have any opinion on M-Tron vs. the Mello Zone Expansion Tank for Sample Tank? Or other suggestions?

Just looking for maximum sounds and ease of use - I'm no genius when it comes to synths and samplers. FYI, I'm running PT5.2/Digi 001 with Mac G4 1.3GHz/1.5GB RAM with OS9.2.

Thanks.

The M-tron is about the easiest and least expensive option you can get. And it sounds good to boot! It's a win-win in my book.

There's also Zero G Nostalgia. (Melltron as well as a WHOLE bunch more shiz)..

It's the best ROMpler VST I've come across in -so- long.

yep, M-Tron is great. In my opinion, a less cheesy way of putting fake strings on tracks, too, as opposed to using so-so string VIs.
I find adherence to fantasy troubling and unreasonable.

Ooh, that should be nice. I'm pretty sure the samples are all from the Hollow Sun folks.

If you have reason, the mello-t refill is amazing and only $30. Has mellotron and chamberlin samples, loads into nn-xt and sounds great.

Thanks for the Mello-T tip. I don't have Reason, but this may be enough reason to get it.

Holy shit I must be tired.... What surely must seem like a reeeally bad intentional pun ("reason to get it") was not intentional. Good night....

And if you really want to go for it, for $200 the official mellotron foundation (mellotron.com) has a sample CD of every Chamberlin and Mellotron tape ever recorded, played through the original instruments. They even have a bunch that never went into production.

Craziness.

I've had very good results with these freeware/shareware VST's:

Nano-Tron:

The strings are from it on that little snippet.

what are you using this in? That looks great. I'm using logic in os x, and I guess there's been some problems with native instruments in logic. The website says it supports AU plugs, but then there are two asterisks by that statement that don't lead anywhere... very annoying.
