Might be moving to Nashvlle...
Seriously...from California. It's expensive here, the people are mean and too beautiful, and I could own 2 houses for the price of mine out there. Plus it's central to touring. Anyway, to get this on topic; anyone live in Nashville or record there or record people from there? What could I expect client-wise? I know it's FLOODED with big time studios, small studios and everything in between, so is it even worth it opening a home based studio? I'm still a 23 year old kid who goes to shows and tours in a band, so maybe I could just gain a client base that way...
It's there or Dallas, but the band's leaning towards Nashville... help me out guys.

nashville's really cool
The music scene is really great actually.
There are a lot of great bands that come from there.
And it's cool enough to have a lot of great indie bands come thru.

Studio competition is fierce.
Everybody's grandmother has a Pro Tools rig,
but once you get working it's really easy to pick up freelance work.
Sometimes I really miss ithat place.

We played in Midlothian and Rockwall (basically Fort worth and Dallas) and I got the metal-impression. It's ok though, they didn't all suck horribly.drewkon wrote:I cant speak for Nashville (only been there once), but I am from DFW and its pretty cool. Very diverse in its musical tastes, but be prepared to record appx. 4 metal bands to every 1 non-metal band. I call this the Dimebag Effect Ratio.

you know, there is a pretty big indie music fanbase here. and consequently there are some bands of that type, but not enough and not many that do it well or to a large audience. i think denton and to some extent dallas is the hub for that stuff, but in any suburb you go to its pretty much just metal and punk.
