These recordings are way cooler than I'll ever be. What fantastic use of hiss and, of course, compression. Often the hiss and the compression are in cahoots. Outstanding.

Is it on purpose that every song seems to cut out about halfway through? I am streaming, not downloading, so maybe my streaming just cuts out somehow; otherwise, perhaps they are hoping to seduce us and eventually lead us to purchase the real CD from them. It seems like a legit site to me.

That dude from the Brian Jonestown Massacre put up all their stuff for free download - several albums worth - I am not sure of his motives but you still have to pay to get the hi-fi versions on a CD

Further study shows that the songs actually peter out at the end in many cases. It doesn't sound like a digital editing sort of cut. I conclude that they're not holding out on us (if we can ignore that they are mp3 sourced)

Great stuff.

My wife is going to kill me if I play this again today. I think she's not as 'hip' as I am or something.

Anyway, thanks again for bringing this stuff to my attention. I like it so much that I am quite sure I will have dreams about it tonight as I slumber.

no problem, i'm glad someone enjoyed this..
my one friend is a huge joe meek fan and has been trying to buy his cds online..and i stumble across free demos..thats great.

--does anyone know the song that Joe Meek got the melody for 'Telstar' from? i think he got sued for it, he was apparently tone deaf..hmm?
