XOC's "Super Mario World"

While it seems to be latest trend to cover video game music in various forms (bands, piano, xylophone, etc.), this version, in my opinion, tops them all. Why? Because it's well-played and recorded, while brilliantly keeping true the wacky charm and color of the game. You can hear the love that went into this one. Kind of a lot to say for a video game cover album, but hear for yourself.

Here's his (his quotes) "outdated" list of gear used. No indication of what three mics he used on everything, unfortunately.

This was pretty awesome. I love Mario music.

my friends play in a band called The Minibosses that does sort of a prog twist on the whole vid game music thing. They're pretty fucking great, and they seem to sell out shows every time they come to New York.
I find adherence to fantasy troubling and unreasonable.

The Minibosses were pretty fun to work with.

Here's some twit playing Super Mario on an 11-string Warr guitar.

ah, pleased to meet you. I've played there a bunch of times myself and have had great sound in every room.

Man, that is one pretentiously ugly instrument. I mean, I play 6-string bass and get some amount of shit for it, but that thing is just hideous.
