Mackie 1202 VLZ fix or replace?

Post by Theron D » Tue Jan 03, 2006 10:49 am

I'm pretty sure my Mackie 1202 VLZ is starting to give out. I've noticed a buzz with headphone monitoring along with having to continually increase the gain in the master channel to monitor mixes (HR824's). The gain is about 3/4 clockwise now where as before was near or just under unity. Wasnt like this several months ago.

Why fix this when all I use the 1202VLZ for is a headphone amp and a controller for main monitors? I mix completely in the box. A small Eurorack seems ideal but I question their QC. Getting the 1202 repaired may be too costly.......any suggestions?

Thanks
Theron D

the 1202vlz sells new for $299, even cheaper used. See what it would cost to fix and go from there.

Heh, you'd be right on that.

In a (verrry) previous life at our GC-A-Like down here I was working in hi-tech / PA dept and I saw 10-12 behringers come through for repair in the same period _one_ mackie came through. Just wiggle the pots on a behringer and you'll know what I'm getting at, heh.

I'd try to track down a pal to look at it - could be as simple as the power supply leaking caps or going wierd.

Have you looked at that terribly named Mackie thing or something in that ilk? http://www.mackie.com/products/bigknob/

would be $100 bucks to fix the 1202 VLZ (replacing output amps).
