"Enjoy Yourself" by JBL Audio

In my audio recording class yesterday we watched a short film made by JBL Audio in the 70's, a true testament to the art of audio engineering, featuring the band Malibu (who're apparently are now long-forgotten) in Silvery Moon Studios. Dig the poorly rendered canned dialogue ("Try put some delay on that...no, no!"), extreme facial hair, tight turtleneck sweaters, intense closeups on the producer's face, who sits at the console but tells the engineer how to adjust knobs and faders, with an unlit cigarette in his mouth.

Muscular producer: "For this song we used 32 tracks, but we mixed it down to 8."
Interviewer: "Why?"
Muscular producer: "It's a secret."
[intense camera closeup, black screen for a few seconds]

Apparently they distributed reel-to-reel tapes with the song sub-mixed to 8 channels, so that you (yes you!) could remix the track yourself.

OK, I don't give it much credit. It was somewhat educational, if you don't know anything about how a record is made. And, if you can resist making fun of it while watching it.
