Is dbx 411 any better than 150?

Post by Judas Jetski » Mon Jan 23, 2006 5:42 pm

Hi.

I recently came into some dbx stuff. The real find seems to be a dbx 208, but I also got a dbx 142 broadcast noise reduction unit as well. I've been searching for info on this stuff but so far I've come up empty handed.

The 208 is best described as a modular, multichannel noise reduction unit set in a rack mount. It claims to have eight channels (says so right there on the front!), but there are 9 modules present. I counted twice.

The modules are each designated dbx 411.

I'm currently running dbx 150 and 150x, which is all sitting in a big, messy pile behind my tape deck (1/4" 8-track). Oh, how I would love to swap that stuff out for this one nice tidy unit.

But the thing is, I really don't know what I'd be getting into with this 208. Is it any better? After all, it's number is 58 higher than the 150. Is it somehow "58 better" than the 150? What about compatability with the stuff I've already recorded using the 150?

I'm not sure just what to do with the 142... Any interesting applications for that thing? Just wonderin'...

Hey... come on now... somebody's gotta know something about dbx 411. Is it any better than the 150, or am I just wasting my time here?
