I dont recall a budget....Currently my favorite small amps are the Bogner Metropolitan, the Carr Hammerhead and the already mentioned Fender Blues Jr. Theres a 1970 Princeton Reverb amounst the group which is a great amp..

TEISCO?!!?

Thank you Alex for keeping it real. I once had their famous "round amp," a solid state with trem...sucked terribly but looked awesome

Now I'm recording with an Epiphone Pathfinder, same as the Gibson Falcon (this is the version with the tube reverb circuit)...rather quiet and the reverb is noisy, but it loves pedals and looks cool.

Harmony H400

Nothin like a guitar amp based on an old tube radio!

http://classic-guitars.ca/inventory/lar ... _large.htm

You can hear it on one of our latest recordings,

intothevoidtheband.com

We used it and a epiphone semi hollow for the intro to "Feel Tomorrow Come"

Of course im sure one of you guys could capture it much better, its still a sweet little clean amp.

Correction:

The Fender S/S model I referred to that I had such good luck with on keys wasn't a Champ (which is a cool tube one-trick-pony) but a Sidekick 15.

Its been great hearing about all these fantastic little amps; some makes/models new to me and some fondly remembered.

really? I have a '78 and the volume knob is also a gain pull knob, which adds a whole separate gain stage. It was 'blackfaced' (for what it's worth) by removing the gain stage, but it still doesn't sound as good overdriven as my friend's blackface. It's damn fine, don't get me wrong, but I'm pretty sure they're not entirely the same. The biggest difference was the price (600 vs 850, though now they're much more).

I've got a sidekick 25 -- great practice amp, sounds good in a small room, almost like a tube amp. I saw one on top of one of Ray Charles' pianos in a studio picture once (the same one I have).

Hammertime,

Thanks for the tip-off, he was not one to fret about appearance or fad.

Ray Charles, eh?

I went ahead and bought a skylark 5T on ebay. We'll see how it is. I paid $280 with s/h. Does anyone know what these usually go for?

It was just in a picture, I think an ad around 10 or 15 years ago -- so it doesn't necessarily mean he used it. Some small solid-state amps actually sound more tubelike than many tube amps. The Fender Champ, in my opinion, is sort of a one trick pony -- great if you like the Fender sound. But with a sidekick, or one of those little Marshall solid state combos, actually do quite a few sounds remarkably well, and they respond to my favorite effects better than most tube amps (univibes, vox wah's, tube screamers).
