re11, cleaning or removing windscreen.

Post by lancebug » Tue Jan 31, 2006 12:53 pm

Just got an older re11 off evilbay. Opened it up and the foam from the windscreen is crumbling a bit. Would like to clean off the diaphram a bit without hurting it. Hoping for some input. Also thinking about getting rid of the screen material(foam) altogether. Anybody know how much that changes the sound?

I just blew mine out with compressed air. i DONT KNOW if that is "cool" or not, but it worked fine for me with that mic. I wasnt expecting amazing things from the mic ever. I have owned it for like 17 years and i still use it a bunch. I pickd it up one day and it had some poop rattling inside the screen, so I opened it up and used some canned air to get rid of the old foam crap in there. It sounds almost exactly the same as it did before. Actually, exactly the same: wierd and fun.
