HEY!!! Undertow Music productions!!

Post by Mr. Dipity » Fri Feb 03, 2006 10:27 am

Undertow music productions,

You are aware that you aren't the first little gang of creeping excrement to figure out how to extract the emails of everyone on the board from one of the few places they have been made available. However, you aren't quite so aware of the pointlessness of your peremptory little ejaculations in our collective mailboxes.

So, I am suggesting that this little community show you. Everyone who received their little spam mails: please take that 30 seconds and actually respond to the message. This ensures that their mailbox overflows with email they don't want, and the one or two poor losers that may have actually responded to their scheme gets lost in pile.

Undertow: please take your sniveling little 'entertainment business' back into your parent's garage where it belongs. And then, kindly consume excrement and expire, whoever you are.

I was wondering how they got my email address. Do you know it was from this forum specifically? Or, could it be from another form as well? Gotta say, I was kinda pisseed when I got their email. You can be assured that I will be responding!

I think responding would only confirm that your email account is active

Makes me wistful for the days when our biggest problem was that dude that posts links for Lexus, Vicodin, Viagra, Toyota Camry, etc.

My email address for this forum is only for this forum.

Since I own my own domain, I have set up a catch-all - in other words, anything sent to blablahblah@groovetronica,com gets rerouted to my main address. Then, when I sign up for things, I use tapeopdotcom@groovetronica.com or whatever as the address.

However, since not everyone received the spam, I am not entirely convinced they got the email address from the Ms. Hillary's welcome message, where they were all listed. Perhaps they just did manual searches through the profile pages? Who knows.

Since these are small time spammers, there isn't much of an issue for them either way. It is unlikely they would bother to prune their emails of dead addresses, nor have the automata to do so. A much bigger issue, however, woud be a lot of messages asking for more information and follow up, that all lead to nothing. This wastes the 'people time' they were hoping to save by spamming for leads.

The big time pill-peddlers churn through billions of addresses, so killing dead ones would conceivably save them time and money. However, in practice, this is unusual as well - sending an email is free compared to the process that would be involved in removing all the dead ones.

My email address is not available at my profile, but I did receive the spam.

Therefore I think it was an inside job, whatever that might mean.

Are you talking about Undertow Music the artist/producer management company out of Illinois?

I didn't get any email from Undertow. What was it about?

OH, nothing. They just spammed a bunch of us with an offer to "produce" for us. We are ticked off about having to take three seconds to delete the message.

If I had a virus on my mac I'd it attach it to a reply.

What do we all have in common besides the TOMB? Maybe we've all ordered from Musicians "Friend". They send me their corporate ads from time to time and I dutifully unsubscribe as needed. Maybe they sell their list.

If they were offering to produce for the spam-ees, then it wasn't the (Champaign and Chicago) Undertow that represents Mark Eitzel, Vic Chesnutt, Will Johnson, Anders Parker, Jay Bennett, Doug Easley, et al.

My guess is that they bought the subscriber list from Tape-Op. We were all told that this was a condition of subscribing.

This "sniveling little entertainment business" represents Jay Bennet and Doug Easley. Ever heard of them? Low rent indeed.

folks, take it easy.

Interesting study. Lets say their procedure for getting our info is legit. Is it worth all the neg pub and animosity its generating? Wonder if they've seen this thread yet. Wonder if they've gotten a lot of big nuisance responses yet. I might suggest that buying the tapeop mailing list is of questionable value to legitimate businesses.
