Just bought one.

It's the 4 pickup version. Is it just me or does it seem like switching between any and all the pickups does almost nothing to the sound.

Maybe it's just my guitar. Maybe the wiring is wierd.

Anyway, just thought I'd start a little discussion here. I went to pick it up at this dude's house, played it a bit. They're smaller/lighter than I thought. Sounded alright. I bought it because it was cheap.

What do you guys think of these guitars? Not necessarily how they sound. I can decide that myself. But things to look out for? Any good modifications?

I've wanted just about everyone I have ever seen.
Sorry, I know this doesn't help the topic at hand. Just my opinion on them.

I've had a sort-of Strat copy ever since high school. Great guitar - the sound varies heavily between different guitars, with some being clunkers and some amazing. The real issue is the pickups, there was a really cool pickup they used in some of the models. Look for the pickups that look a bit like the DeArmond 2k - those are the ones.

I had one of the ugly green sunburst ones for a while...the pickups were amazing, everything else kind of sucked. Wouldn't mind a Spectrum 5 though... :D

A guy I was in a band with had one. The switches worked, they were just noisy as hell. The pickups could almost double as a mic. If you talked into them it imparted a cool effect. Sounded like a low-fi dynamic mic.
I know enough to know that I don't know what I am doing.

and that's probably why switching between them really isn't making a
difference...those pickups often become microphonic and tonally dull.
it can be a cool effect and even useful in creative recording but as far as
good guitar tone...um, you might want to replace them. and therein lies
the dilemma. cool guitars though!
