Audio Analysis

Post by Studio2roll » Fri Feb 10, 2006 6:18 am

An older engineer that I've had to do some work with has been telling me about a program he used to use during mastering for audio analysis. Supposedly you put in a professionaly done store bought CD and the program scans it, then you put in a 2-track mixdown of your own song; which the program scans and makes your mixdown match the audio analysis for frequency response and compression to match the store bought CD.
I'm pretty sure he's bullshitting, because he couldn't remember the name of it. It's nothing I've ever heard of. And if it were true it would be a project studio operators wetdream so everyone would know about it.

If anyone has heard of it being real, please drop me a line.

Yes, I have read an article about just this very thing. But like your friend I can't remember what it was. It does exist though. I'll search around and see if I can figure it out.

There was a plugin called Freefilter(?) that did that. I never used it, but I remember hearing about it.

Freefilter, Elemental Audio Equm, and a host of others.. but dont expect a miricle when you use them to apply there eq settings on your song. The song would have to be very close in timber and sound content..
