i have the mono version. the MR140. It is cool. If your's is really noisy, you may have to tag a ground wire from the reverb pan to the grounding block thing on the back. When I got mine, i thought it was broken, but a half hour, some pot cleaner, and a soldering iron and it is as good at new.

Try putting it on its side, upside down, etc. - a buddy of mine use to have an old Biamp mixer with the spring reverb, and it sounded best on its side.

I know this is sort of a non-answer, but the nice thing about spring reverbs is that there IS no technique.

Just put it on the send, set a send level for each instrument and you're done -- absolved of any further responsibility.

I have an old BiAmp 16 Channel mixer with spring reverb. I love it, and can't wait to incorporate the mixer into my setup again (trying to brainstorm best way - oh, and a table to put it on). On the mixer, it's just a simple knob on each channel going to the reverb, so I just use it as a send. I paid I think $150 for that mixer. Belonged to the xsinger of the Dingbats (lol), prior to that, it was the Radiator's stage mixer. I also got like a 100' (don't remember exactly) XLR snake which comes in real handy.

Put a compressor ahead of the input. This will enable you to drive it a little bit harder without getting too boingy. One of those cheap dbx 163 units would be a good choice.

My VestaFire RV-2 has limiters on the inputs (it's a dual channel spring reverb). The LEDs pulsate green-yellow-red depending on levels, red meaning limiting is active. Nice sounding unit and the limiters are practical.

Delay plus spring reverb = magic.
I've done whole records using only the spring, tape delay and an Effectron II.
I've had great results running a short delay before the spring. It makes it sound bigger and also lets you use less reverb to greater effect (ie: you'll use less but hear more).
My unit is mono so I sometimes fake stereo by running it through a stereo delay patch on the SPX90 with different times for left and right (make sure the delay is set 100% wet).

So the "Brilliance" knob, is that like a phase-inverted "Suck" knob?
