I won a Royer R-121!

Post by i am monster face » Tue Feb 14, 2006 1:27 pm

Last month I went to the NAMM show in Anaheim. While I was there I stopped by the Royer booth and talked with them. I told them how much I wished I could afford their mics, but as a poor college student/MI store employee working at a Mom and Pop store, it wasn't in the picture. I had used their products in past and loved them...just another NAMM dream...right?

The two people I spoke with were very pleasant and advised me to drop my name in the fish bowl. I did, but looked around at the thousands of other people around and actually forgot about it.

A few weeks ago, Royer called and told me I won an R-121! I almost cried.

After a week of running home from work...asking my roommates if my package arrived, it finally showed up. I was ecstatic.

I used it last night and still am trying to figure out what I did to deserve such a piece of art.

I'm afraid to use it though. It seems like the recommendations to use it on a kick are...well...kind of scary for me. I'm going to try it tomorrow, I'm just nervous.

THANK YOU ROYER! THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!

Ian

That's awesome! Congratulations!

I have a similar story...

A few years ago, I was hanging around the Lawson Microphone booth at AES, just talking about stuff with Gene. I was just dreaming about owning mics like this, way out of my budget. Just before leaving, Gene said, "Why don't you enter your name in our drawing. You never know, you might get lucky!" So I did. Several days later, Gail Lawson calls me and tells me that I won a Lawson mic! I upgraded it to a Lawson L251. I had to wait almost a year for it since it was not really in production when I won it, but I don't care, it was worth it. It's such a beautiful sounding, awesome mic, I can't even begin to tell you. Especially for vocals. I get so many compliments on how it sounds from vocalists. It's so great when the Mic Gods smile upon you. I never take that mic for granted, and every single time I fire it up and hear a vocal coming through it, I feel unbelievably blessed.

stoked. In addition to the many common uses you'll read about on the boards, I find my 121 to be a sleeper vocal mic from time to time. Have fun-

(In my best Napoleon Dynamite voice) Lucky!

This is one of my favorite violin mics. Plus, the folks at Royer are really cool to deal with.

Congrats, and enjoy!!!

kickass!

i love the 121's i have two. love them on guitars (all day) and on trombones and trumpets especially. but put it everywhere, it's an incredibly well built and versatile mic.

now if i could win one of the new tube version life would be complete.

congrats... very cool mic. I like it a lot as an ambient mic to blend in on drums... using it as a mono overhead with stereo room mics is pretty cool. And of course. awesome on guitars. Use mine for a lot of backing vocals, too. Good luck, that win was.

So far I've tried it only on guitar. I'm nervous about the kick mic suggestion. I just got it, I don't want to blow it up already. It looks a lot smaller in person. I always look at the picture and think how big it looks.

I love this though. Here's to winning mroe stuff!

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Ian
