8-Track

Post by markee2004 » Sat Feb 18, 2006 12:54 am

I'm looking for an 8-Track tape recorder (normal 'household' type tape, not reel to reel). That has preferably 8 XLR inputs, capability of simultaneous recording of 8 tracks, and phantom power. I might also consider a digital one with the same qaulities.

Does anyone know of one like this. I just need it as something convenient to record demos on.

Cheers.
you can buy all the equipment in the world but it won't write the music for you.

You mean cassette, right?

Sadly there's nothing out there that fits your criteria. The only cassette 8 track that has phantom power is the Tascam 488 MkII, and that only has two XLR jacks and you can only record four tracks maximum at a time. And the only cassette 8 track with 8 XLR jacks and simultaneous 8 track recording is the Tascam 688: which doesn't have phantom power.

If you don't mind a certain lack of portability you can get the Tascam 238 rack mounted 8 track cassette deck and a seperate mixer.

Tascam 238 + small mixer (1202, Soundcrafts, etc.) = great fun!

(I still have my 238S - Dolby S version, even though I now use my HD24 for location gigs).
