Would love to hear about Kevin's home setup. The Of Montreal albums are incredible.

I remembered this post from a long time ago on the OM BBS where his ld gtrst posts and we asked the same thing and this is what Bryan posted:

ok... so...

sunlandic twins
- all programmed beats with Reason.

- cubase for all projects
- mostly BeyerDynamic M88 mic for all vocals and guitars
- bass direct

satanic panic
- mixed beats with Reason and real drums
- most bass kick is with reason (acted as a metronome)
- most real drum tracks recorded to an Otari 16 track fitted with 8-track heads using 1" tape. @ 30ips?
- all other tracks recorded to computer using the Delta 1010 and Cubase
- Lawson tube mic was the mic of choice for this record.
- kevin recorded his drum and bass tracks in pieces.
- ie. hi-hat and snare then toms then cymbals etc...

aldhil's aboretum
- recorded to Otari 16 track (with 16 track heads) on 1" tape. i believe at 15ips.
- mixed on a Soundcraft Ghost console into Wavelab
- micro mixed in Wavelab

coquelicot

- except 'My Darling, I've Forgotten', 'Panda Bear' and 'The Hollow Room' recorded on Otari 8 track with 1/2" tape
- mixed on a Soundcraft Ghost console onto DAT

bird who ate...
- recorded onto a Tascam Portastudio 8-track using 1/4" tape
- mixed with internal Tascam Portastudio mixer onto DAT(?)
- 2nd version mixed on a Soundcraft Ghost console onto DAT.
- 2nd version overdubs on the Otari 1/2" 8-track?

cherry peel
- recorded onto a Tascam Portastudio 8-track using 1/4" tape
- 1st version mixed with internal Tascam Portastudio mixer onto DAT(?)
- 2nd version mixed on a Soundcraft Ghost console onto DAT.
- 2nd version overdubs on the Otari 1/2" 8-track?
- 2nd version of 'Don't Ask Me To Explain' recorded on Otari 1/2" 8-track. mixed by me!
- Julian Koster was the initial engineer for the first few sessions
- Shure SM57 most likely the only microphone used.
