Hey, I'm looking for suggestions on inexpensive (sub $300) mics that have a figure 8 polar pattern.

Pretty much all the inexpensive ribbon mics (nady, shinybox, apex etc.)

Also the Apex tube mic (460 I think). It has something like 9 switchable patterns and sounds pretty damn good for not much money. I've used it for everything from overheads to vocals to guitar and ukulele tracks and it's been great on all of them (I even picked it over a U87 for my vocals).

Check eBay for an AKG 414B/ULS. I bought mine one morning at 4am two summers ago for $405. Great mic. I know that it's a bit over your budget and you may not have time to watch a bunch of auctions, but every now and then you'll see one of these going for way less than the normal $550-$700 price range.
I would also recommend a used AT4050 using the same method as stated above.

that or an e300 i think is the best stuff for $150-$250
i've really grown to love my e300 over the years, i had a short little spat with it once because i was expecting it to do vocals. it works with SOME voices, but not many. but as drum mics and room mics..

I strongly suspect that the EH ribbon is a repackaged version of the T.bone/Nady/Shinybox/TapeOp ribbon mics. It may not be, I have not read or heard where it's manufactured. It's just that we know that there are several companies already rebranding these mics and selling them for roughly the same price, the EH one came out around the same time and is also close in price, though a little more expensive, which they could get away with due to their better brand recognition. In my experience EH has made some really cool stuff, but it's always really cheaply made, so I don't think it's beyond them to do this. I'm sure it's cool, but I wouldn't pay 300 for a rebranded mic that I can get for 165 from Shiny box. If you really want a Russian ribbon mic, Oktava makes one, but I think the Shiny Boxers probably sound better.

Guess I should've done a little more research... Turns out that the EH is a rebranded Oktava, not Chinese at all. But as I said before, based on what I've read and sound samples I've heard, I'd take the Nady/ShinyBox over the Oktava/EH, and not just cause it's cheaper.

I've been using this mic for a few years now, and I still love it. The figure 8 pattern works well, and it's also a nice omni room mic. Good "bang for buck" factor - I think I bought mine for $180 or so.
